All Proceeds Go To FDNY Foundation

NEW YORK (WLNY) — The FDNY Firefighters brought some heat to The Couch when they stopped by to talk about the release of the official 2014 Calendar of Heroes.

The calendar showcases 13 active FDNY Firefighters at locations across New York City. Each month features a fire safety message which is meant to ensure that every person who purchases a calendar can remain fire safe all year long.

Choosing the 13 Firefighters for the calendar can be tough.

“It’s pretty competitive. We submit photos, and then after we do that we get selected,” one Firefighter said. “We come down, we get evaluated and we get chosen. It can be anywhere from 50 to 100 guys and then they give us a call and let us know if we made it.”

All proceeds from the sale of the calendar go directly to the FDNY Foundation.  The Foundation is the not-for-profit arm of the FDNY established to promote fire safety education for residents of New York City and to provide professional development, training and education for FDNY members.

“It’s great because they help fire prevention within New York City, they help the firemen, they help the firemen’s families,” said “Mr. August,” Firefighter Brian Dessart. “They really do a phenomenal, phenomenal thing both for the city of New York and also for the FDNY.”
