Man Found Dead In Tompkins Square Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a field in Tompkins Square Park.

Around 8:20 a.m., police came to the park, near St. Mark's Place and Avenue A in the East Village, and found the man – said to be in his 30s – lying unresponsive in the field.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man's identity was being withheld Saturday afternoon pending family notification.

Police had no further details the man or whether he appeared to have suffered any trauma. The New York City Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
