Lakewood Township, N.J. Residents Concerned After Fox Attack

LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Lakewood Township, N.J., were on alert Monday after a fox attacked a child over the weekend.

The fox reportedly scratched a 4-year-old girl on her arm, leg and lip this past Saturday near Ocean Avenue in Lakewood Township, authorities said.

Animal control officers found the fox and killed it, but people who lived nearby were still concerned Monday.

"Growing up here, you've seen squirrels and cats, but I've certainly never seen any foxes," one man said.

Animal control officials said results of a rabies test on the animal should be released on Tuesday.
