Rex Ryan Poses With Fan Wearing 'This Team Makes Me Drink' T-Shirt

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jets coach Rex Ryan may not have the final say on his starting quarterback, but at least he's still in control of his funny bone.

Ryan posed for a photo Saturday night -- and looked quite happy -- with a die-hard Jets fan who was wearing a T-shirt that said "This Team Makes Me Drink."

The image quickly went viral after the fan, Joe Grinwis, posted it on Twitter.

"I was like 'Oh great, he's gonna turn me down, the one time I see Rex Ryan,' " Grinwis told CBSNewYork.com. "But luckily he was cool about it."

Grinwis made the pilgrimage to Jets training camp at SUNY Cortland all the way from Wantage Township, N.J.

"I'm guessing (Ryan) thought I was a true fan, which I am," he said.

Ryan was fittingly wearing a "Big Kid" T-shirt.

"He didn't really say anything," Grinwis said. "I showed him the shirt ... he laughed and said thanks for coming out."

The shirt was designed by Crosstown New York, a local apparel company that has been featured in this space before.

Darren Meenan of Crosstown NY said the attention has "definitely brought life back to that shirt."

"I printed them during the last week of last season and let them slowly sell out. Now that the demand is back we have the presses running at full speed," Meenan told CBSNewYork.com. "A bootlegger already had a complete ripoff of his own for sale but I shut that down by this morning."

He added: "With sports you sometimes need to laugh at your own situation. A sense of humor goes a long way when your team is down in the dumps. No matter how many butt fumbles go down this season, this shirt will be a hit at any tailgate party for Gang Green fans."

You can purchase the T-shirt in sizes up to 4-XL on Crosstown NY's website.
