Campaign Spokesperson, Shannon Eis, Says Functioning Businesses Need Traffic This Summer To Help Revive Economy

NEW YORK (WLNY) — As recovery efforts continue on the Jersey shore, spokesperson for the ‘Stronger Than The Storm’ campaign, Shannon Eis, visited The Couch to talk about the campaign’s initiatives.

Eis said about 80 percent of the shore is ready and open for business.

“The communities are back, they’re stronger than ever,” Eis said. “That is really the emphasis behind the campaign, this idea of strength, which really applies to New Jersey in so many ways. So that was the inspiration for it, were the people and the communities and the businesses, who said ‘we’re rebuilding, come back, help us get us back up.'”

Eis brought some treats from Johnson’s Popcorn in Ocean City and Jenkinson’s Sweet Shop in Point Pleasant Beach, two of the businesses that she said have worked hard to recover and welcome guests.

One event that Eis said will take place at the Jersey shore this summer is the Kites and Castles Tour which features sandcastle building, a kite-making workshop, kite flying, sand sculpting with a world-renowned sand sculptor and family friendly beach games for families and shore-goers to enjoy free of charge. The next tour stops are:

  • August 3- Ocean Grove
  • August 8- Ventnor City
  • August 10- Seaside Park
  • August 17- Cape May City
  • August 24- Asbury Park

The “Jersey Shore Soundoff” is another interactive event at the Jersey shore. The “Soundoff” is a statewide music contest for local musicians to write and record an original song that could become New Jersey’s summer anthem.

“Any New Jersey based artist can submit an original creation that can be their anthem for summer, it doesn’t have to be storm-oriented on any level,” Eis said.

Contestants can register online and begin submitting videos to The grand prize invites the winner to perform at the Stronger than the Storm Soundoff Sept. 7, before crowds of fans while rocking alongside a notable act.
