NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A pair of shootings rocked New Jersey's biggest city on Friday, according to the Newark Police Department.

In all, two were killed and five were wounded. The first shooting took place just after 6 p.m. at the corner of 18th Avenue and Livingston, Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.

The victims were sitting outside when two men wearing ski masks stepped out of a car and opened fire, witnesses said.

Cops arrived on the scene in minutes and found two dead and three wounded. Cries of family members filled the air where moments before children had been playing, and neighbors told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten that they were fed up with the violence.

"I've gotta move, I got two grandbabies," Shera Lee said.

The wounded were taken to University Hospital, authorities said.

No details regarding the second shooting were available on Friday night, nor were the identities of the victims or conditions of the wounded.

Both incidents remained under investigation.
