City Launches #LoveNYC Photo Contest For Second Year

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The City of New York has launched a photo competition, encouraging residents to showcase their favorite features of the city's five boroughs.

The #LoveNYC Instagram Photo Contest allows residents to send in photos showing what they love about New York City. The winners will get to serve as ambassadors for the city's official Instagram page, and their photos will be featured on all the city's social media channels.

Winning photos of each borough will also be showcased in September at the New York Public Library.

Last year, the #LoveNYC contest resulted in more than 2,000 photo submissions, the city said. This year, the city has opened the competition to submissions via Facebook and Twitter, as well as Instagram.

Through Aug. 18, shutterbugs can choose an image from their Facebook photo albums and use the photo contest app Offerpop on the official New York City Facebook page to enter. On Twitter and Instagram, participants can enter by using the #LoveNYC hashtag.

Once all photos are received, a panel of judges will narrow down the submissions, and the public will then take to Facebook to vote, the city said.

This year's judges include Artsy online art platform founder Carter Cleveland, Mobile Media Lab co-founder Liz Eswein, Mid-Manhattan Art and Picture Collection managing librarian Billy Parrott, Humans of New York founder Brandon Stanton, and city Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs and Communications Howard Wolfson.

Public voting is set to be held between Aug. 23 and Sept. 2. The winners will be announced shortly afterward.
