82-Year-Old Woman Bitten, Injured By Pit Bull In Passaic, N.J.

PASSAIC, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A pit bull will be put down, after he bit and injured an 82-year-old woman in Passaic, N.J.

As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported Tuesday, the dog sank its sharp teeth into the woman's arm and leg shortly after 3 p.m. on 9th Street in Passaic. She was in her yard, and the pit bull was in the yard next door but managed to jump over a 6-foot fence.

"I didn't think a dog like that could jump that high," said neighbor Andy Cyrus.

Cyrus said the neighbors are very responsible with their dogs, and neighbor Marta Tarnowska agreed. But she said the elderly woman's grandson was concerned that particular dog was getting to be handful.

"We just spoke yesterday, and he said, you know, 'This dog is vicious,' and we got a little scared," she said.

George, 12, was terrified. He said he was bitten by the same dog last year.

"He bit that woman, me and one of my friends," he said.

There was no comment from the dog owners. Police said the owners signed the dog over to animal control, and it will be euthanized.

The woman who was bitten was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Paterson. The woman's grandson said she would recover, but witnesses said her leg appeared to be very mangled from the bites.
