One Dead, One In Critical After Motorcycle Hits Pedestrian

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A pedestrian has died after being struck by a motorcycle in the Sunnyside section of Queens early Sunday morning.

According to police, the driver of the 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle was heading eastbound on Queens Boulevard when he hit the man attempting to cross 44th Street just before 4 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 50-year-old pedestrian dead. The motorcycle driver was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in critical condition.

"I feel sorry for him and his family," a local resident said.

Other neighbors said drivers and pedestrians both need to be more careful

"Unbelievable that people do speed and some pedestrians do not pay attention. People walk with their cellphones in their hands, paying attention to their phones," a man told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.

The investigation is ongoing.
