Woman's Body Pulled From Water Off L.I. After She Vanished From Boat

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman reported missing early Sunday was found dead in the waters off Long Island several hours later, and police were investigating the circumstances of her death.

Ninive Petrocelli, 40, of New York City, was boating with her husband John Petrocelli, 54, offshore from Montauk Point late Saturday night, Suffolk County police said. Around midnight, John Petrocelli noticed his wife was gone from the boat, and notified the U.S. Coast Guard, Suffolk County police said.

The Coast Guard immediately began a search, and at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a boater notified the Coast Guard of a body in the water, police said.

The Coast Guard found the body, which indeed turned out to be that of Ninive Petrocelli, police said.

Her body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office, where an autopsy will be conducted, police said.

It was not known Sunday night how Ninive Petrocelli ended up off the boat. Suffolk County and East Hampton Town police were investigating.
