Man Killed In Queens Hit And Run; Police Search For Driver

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Monday night were searching for a vehicle that struck and killed a man, and sped off, in Queens.

Shortly before 2 a.m., officers arrived at 34th Avenue and Junction Boulevard, on the eastern edge of the Jackson Heights section of Queens. They found Manuel Campoverde, 25, lying in the roadway after being struck.

Campoverde was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police later learned that Campoverde had been in the eastbound lane of 34th Avenue when a vehicle traveling east struck him, police said. The driver kept going.

The vehicle was described by a witness as a small, black four-door sedan. The witness said it was being driven by a man with a light complexion.

The investigation continued Monday evening.
