Officer Credited With Saving Man Who Was Trapped In Water In Upper Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Wednesday evening were congratulating an officer who rescued a man who got caught in the water as he tried to repair his jet ski on the northern edge of Manhattan.

Around 6:30 p.m., the 24-year-old man had been on the Columbia boat dock, off West 218th Street and Indian Road, with his jet ski. He jumped into the water to fix the watercraft, but was pulled under the dock, police said.

After being submerged for several minutes, the man was pulled from the water unconscious and with no pulse, police said.

Officer Richard Natale administered CPR on the man, and he began breathing again shortly afterward, police said.

The man was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition, police said.
