Police: Woman Sexually Assaulted In Valley Stream State Park

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police Sunday night were on the hunt for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a hiker on Long Island.

Nassau County officers, New York State Police, and New York State Park police were canvassing the scene Sunday at Valley Stream State Park after the attack.

The victim was alone on a hiking path at the time of the attack around 11 a.m. She was near the entrance at Hendrickson Avenue.

She described her attacker as a black man between the ages of 29 and 35, standing about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches tall.

She said he has a thin build and short hair with braids on the side, and was wearing black pants and a white T-shirt.

Police K9 units and helicopters assisted in the search.
