Woman Hospitalized Following Police Chase On Long Island

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Police in Suffolk County spent Monday investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Deer park on Sunday night.

During a motor vehicle stop on Sunrise Highway near Commack Road in Islip the driver of a 2012 Kia Forte sped off and slammed into a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer at the intersection of West 6th Street and Central Ave in Deer Park, according to authorities.

The Kia attempted to escape police at over 100-mph, police said. The chase was eventually terminated.

Police said that the driver of the Kia tried to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended a short distance from the scene of the crash.

Brook Moody, 33, was a passenger in the Kia at the time. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious head and facial injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The Kia had been reported stolen in Bay Shore on August 27.
