Cannoli Kronie Takes An Italian Twist On Popular Cronut

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There’s something special on the menu this year at the Feast of San Gennaro, New York City’s longest-running and most revered religious outdoor festival in the country.

A new delicacy that takes an Italian twist on the popular cronut is sure to be a hit at the 87th annual festival.

“We made a croissant doughnut hybrid and being an Italian baker for the last 40 years I said, ‘What goes better than a cannoli?'” Joe Floriano, owner of Enrico’s bakeries in Westchester and the Bronx, told 1010 WINS.

The Cannoli Kronie is loaded with cannoli cream and topped with orange, pistachio and a red cherry.

“It’s flaky like a croissant and it’s dense like a doughnut,” Floriano said. “It’s like nothing else you’ve ever had before.”

The Cannoli Kronie, along with other flavors such as Maple Bacon and Salted Caramel, will be sold at a booth which will be located on Mulberry Street between Kenmare and Spring streets.

The Cannoli Kronie sells for $6; other flavors cost $5.

The Feast of San Gennaro kicked off Thursday afternoon in Little Italy with the 12th Annual Cannoli Eating Competition.

When 1010 WINS’ Eileen Lehpamer arrived at the Feast she was greeted by a man wearing a full-sized cannoli suit.

“Everybody loves me. I’m the guy! Want a picture boss?” the Cannoli announced.

The Feast will run through Sept. 22.
