Teen, Man Gunned Down In Newark

NEWARK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two more people have been gunned down in Newark.

The two victims were found shot to death in a parked vehicle in the city's West Ward on Saturday afternoon, law enforcement officials said. The victims were Damien Matteaux, 23, of Newark, and Nyquese McCollum, 16, of Irvington, authorities confirmed.

The man and girl were cousins, and it appears Matteaux was the target of the shooting, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

McCollum and Matteaux were en route to pick up Matteau'x girlfriend at her workplace in Union, prosecutors said.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, police said.

It appeared that Matteaux was targeted, but the motive is unclear, police said.

The killings were the 63rd and 64th in Newark this year. They came about two weeks after a 10-day period in which 10 people were murdered in the city.
