Woman Charged With DWI In Long Island Crash That Killed Passenger

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Rockville Centre woman has been charged with driving drunk, after she allegedly crashed into a parked tractor trailer and left her passenger dead Sunday morning.

Asya Ulmer, 21, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence of alcohol in the incident around 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Nassau County police said in a news release.

Ulmer was driving a 2000 BMW on Centre Avenue near Meehan Street in Rockville Centre, when she hit the parked truck trailer, police said.

Passenger Jennifer Alexis, 21, of Bayside, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, police said.

Ulmer was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital after complaining of pain, and was then arrested and charged, police said.

She was set to appear in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead for an arraignment Monday morning, police said.
