3 Shot, Wounded In Paterson, N.J.

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Three people were wounded early Saturday when shots rang out on a street in Paterson, N.J. – not far from the scene where a man was gunned down a day earlier.

The shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. at Park Avenue and East 18th Street, police said. Authorities tell The Record that a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt approached the victims and started shooting, then fled on foot toward Madison Avenue.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired found no victims, but soon learned the three victims had been driven to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, police told the newspaper.

Further details on the victims' injuries were not disclosed.

On Friday, 33-year-old city resident Tashan Hall was killed at Carroll Street and 16th Avenue in a shooting that also left a woman wounded.

It was not clear Saturday whether the incidents were related.

Anyone with information on the Saturday shooting was asked to call Paterson police Cease-Fire Unit detectives Carlos Charon and Rick Ferreira at (973) 321-1342, the newspaper reported. The homicide on Friday is under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit at (973) 321-1120, the paper reported.
