NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — In a revealing interview – her first since leaving the State Department – Hillary Rodham Clinton said she is indeed thinking about running for president in 2016.
Back in January, Clinton said she had no plans to run. But in an upcoming New York Magazine article, Clinton appeared to waver on the issue, CBS 2’s Kristine Johnson reported Sunday night.
When asked whether she wrestles with running, Clinton responded: “I do, But I’m both pragmatic and realistic.”
The former secretary of state, U.S. senator and first lady went on to say: “I’m not in a hurry…. I think it’s a serious decision, not to be made lightly, but it’s also not one that has to be made soon.”
Clinton spoke to reporter Joe Hagan.
“She’s come out for the first time here and said, you know, I’m thinking about it,” Hagan said. “So she’s weighing it.”
In a wide-ranging interview, Clinton talked about her relationship with President Barack Obama, as well as her foreign policy experience. Clinton insiders also have been talking.
“The most fascinating part of the experience for me was talking to many of her former staffers from the State Department and some of her closer friends,” Hagan said, “and they’re much more open about here’s why she’s qualified.”
The aides are also speaking out about close Clinton aide Huma Abedin, the wife of unsuccessful mayoral candidate and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner.
One associate was quoted as saying: “Huma has a choice to make. Does she go with Anthony, or does she go with Hillary?”
Clinton left the State Department in January. So for the first time in decades, Hillary and Bill Clinton are spending lots of time together at home.
“We have a great time,” Hillary Clinton said. “We laugh at our dogs. We watch stupid movies. We take long walks. We go for a swim.”
All three Clintons now work for the newly-renamed Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
