Dina Lohan Pleads Not Guilty To DWI Charges On Long Island

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Lindsay Lohan's mother has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges on Long Island.

Dina Lohan was arraigned Tuesday morning in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead.

During the brief court appearance, a judge suspended the 50-year-old Lohan's driver's license before releasing her without bail.

"You may not drive, do you understand?" the judge asked Lohan, who nodded in response, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.

Lohan was stopped by police on the Northern State Parkway on Sept. 12 for allegedly driving 77 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to police.

A breath test revealed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be .20 percent – more than twice the legal limit, police said.

She was issued tickets for two DWI offenses and speeding.

Lohan's attorney, Mark Heller, told reporters that his client has been a victim of what he called a "challenging trilogy."

"Family substance abuse and domestic violence, financial crises bordering on bankruptcy and foreclosure and raising a family in a fatherless home when the father is in prison," Heller said.

He said he hopes the judge is merciful and spares Lohan from having to spend any time in a jail cell, Rincon reported.

"Dina Lohan is painfully mindful of the gravity of her arrest for driving while intoxicated," Heller said. "I am confident that the district attorney's office and the judicial system will temper justice with mercy."

He then escorted his client to a chauffeured silver Rolls-Royce.

The arrest came just months after Lohan's troubled actress daughter completed her latest stint in rehab.
