Is Elite Upper East Side High School The Saddest Place In Manhattan?

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- You might think that it would be the Westside Highway during rush hour, or a busy subway platform on a sweltering summer day, but researchers have declared Hunter College High School the saddest place in Manhattan.

Researchers studied the emotions of Twitter users to come to the conclusion, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported.

One student told WINS' Baumgarten that the academics at the Upper East Side school are rigorous.

"I figured yeah that could make sense because it is kind of hard here," she said.

The mother of a student suggested that the elite school's architecture could have something to do with it.

"I don't know, maybe no windows," she said.

But a group of seniors disagreed and said that nobody they know even tweets from school.

"How many people tweet about going to Hunter? I don't know anyone who tweets. I have very few friends who tweet," Joseph said.

His friend Jeremiah added that students who do tweet typically do so from home and that the apparently sad tweeting could have been perpetrated by residents of Hunter College High's neighborhood.

The research was conducted by the New England Complex Systems Institute in Cambridge, Mass. It used a computer program to classify over 600,000 geographically tagged messages across the city, The New York Times reported.
