Stamford Girl Arrested After Allegedly Bullying Classmate

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A 12-year-old Stamford girl has been charged with disorderly conduct after police said she bullied a female classmate at a private middle school.

Police stepped in after the parents of the 13-year-old victim reported an increase in the intensity of the bullying, WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported.

Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said the bullying, which involved verbal abuse and yelling, caused the victim intense grief and anguish.

"As the bullying increased she made comments that she contemplated suicide because the intensity of the bullying increased so much," Hohn told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau. "I'm glad we got involved because we had to do the appropriate measures to stop this. Obviously, when the poor girl is contemplating suicide you've gotta do whatever you gotta do to stop it."

The 12-year-old girl will undergo counseling.

"If she doesn't stop she'll be arrested again or she'll be thrown out of school," Hohn said.
