Santonio Holmes Responds To 'Media Frenzy' Over Remarks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes apparently doesn't like how his latest comments have been covered by the media.

Holmes, likely to miss Monday's game in Atlanta with a hamstring injury, had this to say Thursday about his one-catch contribution in the Jets' loss to the Tennessee Titans: "I can't throw it to myself and catch it, otherwise I would. I just have to do my part, which is the position that I'm playing, which is primary 'X' receiver and a lot of times you get double-covered, get taken out of the play."

He's taken some heat for the remarks, which were similar to the ones from Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks last month.

"What a great morning 2 awake 2 hear the media frenzy about Holmes quitting on his team, and he sucks, and he always blaming someone else," Holmes tweeted Friday morning.

He also retweeted over 20 messages from supportive fans. Supportive of Holmes, that is -- not the media.

"Don't worry Tone. Fans know how the NY Media does business. I'm surprised they have not blamed the #Shutdown on the Jets yet," one fan wrote.

Another tweeted: "LOL. NY Media is about to write an article on how @ToneTime10 is retweeting fans. Watch."

Guilty as charged.

Holmes closed things out by posting a picture of his breakfast:
