NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police are investigating after a woman and a newborn baby were found dead in a Brownsville, Brooklyn apartment Thursday morning.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call just after 10 a.m. that the woman and infant were unconscious in an apartment on Legion Street.

Margarine Lyons, 34, and Preston Warren Alexander, 11 days old, were found unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

Preston was found unconscious, underneath Marjorie. Police confirmed that Lyons died of natural causes and that she appeared to have rolled over on top of the infant, CBS 2's Tracee Carrasco reported.

Preston was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Family members told CBS 2 that Lyons may have been suffering from complications related to a c-section that she underwent 11 days ago.

"She was complaining that there was a lot of pain after the c-section and the pain wasn't going away like normal because she had a c-section before with the twins. It's not the same and then she started to have a fever so we told her to go to the hospital and get it checked out and then they gave her some medication to come home with," her father Douglas Lyons explained.

The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.
