Modern Dance Company 'Abraham.In.Motion' To Hold First Benefit Gala

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- The modern dance company "Abraham.In.Motion" will hold its first annual benefit gala Sunday night at New York Live Arts in Chelsea.

Founder and creative director Kyle Abraham stopped by The Couch along with Tony and Emmy winner Bebe Neuwirth to talk about the event.

"I'll sing a song, we have a couple of other performers -- Mary Testa, Bryan Terrell Clark from Motown will be singing, but it's mostly to celebrate Kyle's company and the beautiful dancers and his beautiful choreography," Neuwirth said.

The gala will help raise funds for the performers and collaborators of Abraham.In.Motion.

"We're really in a great place, we're coming off a lot of great momentum, I just received the MacArthur Genius award, so people are really kind of coming behind me and wanting to support the company," Abraham said. "But we're still needing to develop a development director, an executive director, a lot of fundamental aspects to building a dance company."

"Dance is who I am, it's my livelihood," Abraham said.
