Report: Teens Hurled Racial Slurs In Brooklyn Beating

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three teenage boys and a 12-year-old girl were arrested in connection with an attack in Brooklyn last week, in which a published report said racial slurs were hurled by the alleged assailants.

Two teenage boys – identified in published reports as boys ages 14, 17 and 18 and a 12-year-old girl – were arrested in connection with the incident, police told 1010 WINS.

The attack happened around 7 p.m. Monday as a group of teenagers ranging in age from 12 to 18 crossed Avenue U at East 58th Street in Brooklyn, while a husband and wife were waiting to drive through the intersection, according to a New York Daily News report.

The couple – identified in the report as Ronald Russo, 30, and his wife, Alanna – honked the horn for the teens to get out of the way, and they started kicking his car, the newspaper reported, quoting a criminal complaint. The teens allegedly began kicking Russo's car, and when he got out to check on possible damage, the teens allegedly dragged him to the ground and began beating and kicking him in the head, the newspaper reported.

Court papers indicated that some of the teens called the couple "crackers" and "white m****rf****rs, and called the woman a "white whore," the newspaper reported. The attackers were black, while Russo and his wife are white, the paper reported.

The paper reported the girl pulled the woman's hair and threw her to the ground while she called 911.

One of the teens who was arrested – identified in the report as Kashawn Kirton, 18 – said he was in a Lowe's store at the time of the alleged attack and told the newspaper he would never participate in such a thing. He told the paper he was arrested because he was wearing the same clothes as one of the assailants.

Another teen who was arrested was identified by the newspaper as Daehrell Finch, 17.

The teens were hit with gang assault, menacing and harassment charges, and Kirton was also hit with hate crime charges, the newspaper reported.
