Autopsy: Baby Found At Long Island Sanitation Facility Was Stillborn

LAWRENCE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An autopsy has determined that the female fetus found at a sanitation facility on Long Island had been born dead, authorities said.

Nassau County police said the dead fetus was found last week inside the facility's recycling plant on Bay Boulevard in Lawrence.

A worker at the plant told Newsday that another employee found the baby in a trash bag on a conveyor belt. When police arrived, they found the remains of a dead fetus wrapped in a bloody towel with the umbilical cord still attached, WCBS 880 reported.

Police say they're concerned about the mental and physical well-being of the mother and are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 516-573-6553.
