NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police said a man has been arrested after an argument between roommates over a curtain separating the beds at a Queens nursing home turned deadly.

Thomas Yarnavick, 66, was arrested and charged with second degree murder on Wednesday, police said.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call of an assault at the Beacon Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Beach 113th Street in the Rockaways, police said.

When they arrived, police said they found Yarnavick's 71-year-old roommate unresponsive with head trauma. He was taken to Saint John's Hospital where he later died, police said.

Police allege Yarnavick bludgeoned his roommate with a metal piece from a wheelchair. Police said the two had been roommates since July. It wasn't known if they'd had any problems before.

The victim's name has not been released.

The nursing home issued a statement saying it was grieving and caring for residents in the wake of the tragedy.
