Nun Recovering After Breaking Back Escaping Convent Fire

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A nun who broke her back while escaping from a fire is said to be doing better.

Sister Regina Gegic was injured in October when somebody torched the old St. Joseph Hill convent on Staten Island.

Sister Gegic jumped out of a second floor window and broke three vertebrae when she hit the ground.

She has been released from the hospital and has resumed limited duties in her role as Convent Administrator, CBS 2 reported.

"She is doing progressively better each day and she's able to walk around and that's a wonderful sight for the sisters," a convent spokesperson said.

Sister Gegic was supposed to attend a convent fundraiser on Saturday but was not feeling up to it.

Three teenagers face charges in connection with the fire.
