Report: Tigers GM Dombrowski Shoots Down Robinson Cano Rumors

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to MLive.com, Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski has no interest in pursuing free agent second baseman Robinson Cano.

Internet rumors are circulating that Cano and agent Jay-Z flew into Detroit on Thursday or Friday. Having acquired second baseman Ian Kinsler from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, it would be surprising to see the Tigers interested in Cano.

Dombrowski is adamant that Kinsler will be the Tigers' starting second baseman on Opening Day.

"We plan on having Ian Kinsler as our second baseman this year," Dombrowski told MLive via email.

The Tigers traded slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to the Rangers in the deal, sending $30 million to complete the winter's first true blockbuster.

It appears that the market for Cano is extremely thin given his extremely large demands. It's possible that the Rangers could enter the race to sign Cano, having opened up Kinsler's spot at second base.

Still, the most likely scenario is Cano remaining a Yankee.
