Cops: Newark Man Dies After Being Shot
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Newark man who was found shot and wounded in the vestibule of a city apartment building has died from his injuries, authorities said.
Police found Gary Anderson, 18, shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, when they responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue, said Essex County Acting Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.
It appeared that Anderson had been shot several times, Murray said. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 2:30 a.m.
Further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used and how many shots were fired, were not disclosed. Authorities also did not say whether Anderson lived in the apartment building where he was found.
A possible motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
