Holiday Shopping Guide: Black Friday Vs. Cyber Monday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Every year Black Friday shoppers brave the weather, the traffic, the crowds and more just to snag the best deals that stores can offer.   But is all the hassle really worth it?

As CBS 2's Kristine Johnson reported Wednesday, some of the best deals may actually be online this year.

"Our data indicates that all the sales that happen in store, are available online," said shopping expert Mark Locastro.  "Items will be available online at the same price or cheaper."

That's not the only holiday shopping secret being revealed.

Due to a shorter shopping season between the holidays, Locastro said the long Thanksgiving weekend is actually the best time to take advantage of huge promotions.

Locastro also noted that deals offered on Thanksgiving are going to different than deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

If you're in the market for clothes and shoes, experts say you're best bet is to shop online on Cyber Monday, Johnson reported.

"Cyber Monday is the heavyweight champion when it comes to clothing and shoe deals," Locastro said.

For the best deals on video games and HDTV's -- Thanksgiving Day is your best bet.

If you are looking for a computer or an iPhone, Locastro suggested to shop on Black Friday but warned against shopping at certain stores.

"Do not buy it at the Apple store.  If you shop Amazon or Best Buy, you have double the percentages off," Locastro said.

There is at least one item you shouldn't buy for weeks.  Two weeks before Christmas is when you'll see the steepest discounts on toys, according to Locastro.
