Queens Crash Leaves 1 Driver Dead, 1 Injured

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A motorist was killed early Saturday when a crash sent his vehicle plowing through a low brick wall and onto a lawn in Howard Beach, Queens.

A second driver was also injured, and was later charged in connection with the crash.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the scene of an accident at 159th Avenue and 98th Street in Queens.

They learned that a 23-year-old man had been driving his Ford sedan south on 98th Street when he collided with a 2001 Saturn operated by Jimmy Sinisi, 38, of Queens.

The Saturn was broadsided and the driver's side was smashed in, police told 1010 WINS. The Ford crashed through a brick retaining wall and a railing, onto a front lawn, and into the front door stoop of a house, police said.

Sinisi was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other driver – James Celauro of Queens – was later charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired, police said. Earlier, he was reported in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital.
