2 New Jersey Teens Killed When Car Flips Over

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two central New Jersey teens were killed this weekend when their car ran off the roadway and overturned in a wooded area.

Driver Jeffrey Szatkowski, 17, of Spotswood, and passenger Nicole Surace, 18, of Milltown, had to be extricated from the vehicle after the accident around 7:50 p.m. Saturday on Dutch Road near Fresh Ponds Road in East Brunswick, local police told The Home News Tribune.

Both died a short time later at a hospital.

It was not yet known Sunday what caused the crash. Authorities said the southbound vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, then overturned in a wooded area before striking a tree and landing on its roof.

It did not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
