But he said for years, he has been taking the time to help those in need – including with the Coalition for the Homeless in New York City.

"I've done things for people who are down in their luck in the slums of Africa and Kenya, in Vietnam, in Nicaragua," Cain said. "I never dreamed that there were so many right here in New York City."

Cain said there are many ways others also can help get involved with their local charities.

"There's so many easy ways to help -- even just donating a jacket; old jackets and things like that you don't use anymore," he said. "That stuff is extremely valuable to somebody up the street who doesn't have that, or things like blankets."
