L.I. Fishermen Involved In Boating Accident 'Very Lucky'

CENTER MORICHES, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Three fishermen were injured when their boat crashed into a private dock in Center Moriches early Wednesday morning.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, a 31-foot craft rammed a private dock, sending two of the fishermen into the frigid waters.

The third stayed with the sinking boat.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

"Oh, they're very lucky. It could have been a lot worse. The way that they hit the bowl kit and the rate of speed, I assume they were going pretty fast. They're all very lucky to be in the condition that they are in," fire chief Ron Primus told Xirinachs. "We do cover a lot of waterways in our fire district and we've come across incidents before. This is probably one of the most unusual."

Only the man in the partially submerged boat required rescue. He suffered a back injury, authorities said.

The crash was just a freak accident, according to authorities.
