Inspired Jets Beat The Browns 24-13

By Tyson Rauch

The New York Jets entered Sunday's game as a team dazed and confused as reports surfaced that head coach Rex Ryan was going to be fired. Following a 24-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns, many are going to wonder if removing Ryan is the right move for the Jets.

Offense Grade: A

The New York Jets offense did a solid job of moving the ball against a very good Cleveland defense. Gang Green compiled 422 total yards, including 208 on the ground. The Jets offensive line did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage while running back Chris Ivory (109 yards) ran with wreckless abandon. Wide receiver David Nelson had a breakout game with two touchdown catches against his former team.

Defense Grade: A

As expected the New York Jets defense stifled the Browns running game and went after quarterback Jason Campbell.  Rookie defensive back Dee Milliner (one interception) did an excellent job playing against wide receiver Josh Gordon, while Quinton Coples and company generated consistent pressure.  Linebacker Calvin Pace notched his 10th sack on the season while safety Ed Reed picked off a Campbell pass.

Quarterback Grade: A

Geno Smith shrugged off a slow start and put together a quality performance on Sunday. Geno threw for two touchdowns while rushing for another one. Smith remained poised in the pocket and effectively used his legs when the protection started to breakdown. As the game played out Geno's confidence started to increase, which is an encouraging sign for the young signal caller.

Special Teams Grade: C

Nick Folk was 1/2 on field goals while Ryan Quigley averaged only 33 yards a punt. The coverage units gave up two big returns which is starting to become a weekly occurrence. Gang Green tried a fake punt but came up ridiculously short on the pass.

Rex rallied his troops

You have to give Rex Ryan credit as he rallied his team back from a 10-0 deficit. The Jets never quit on their coach and played inspired football throughout the game. The defense played very aggressive while the offense went back to their ground and pound roots. Overall this was a solid victory for Gang Green.
