Suspect Linked To Sex Assault Predicated On Return Of Wallet

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man arrested this past weekend was linked to a sexual assault in which he allegedly posed as a good Samaritan returning a woman's wallet.

Donnelle Murphy, 29, was charged Sunday with attempted rape, burglary, grand larceny, and menacing in the Dec. 16 attack, police said.

A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by a man who appeared to be a good Samaritan returning her wallet which she had left at a fast-food restaurant, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

The woman, who is in her 20s, said the man knocked on her door around 2:30 a.m. and told her he had her wallet, police said.

The alleged victim told police the man then pushed his way into her apartment on Lexington Avenue near East 26th Street and sexually attacked her, Jones reported.

The woman was treated and released from Bellevue Hospital.

Police said the identification inside the wallet led the suspect to his alleged victim, Jones reported.
