NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — With only hours to spare shoppers packed stores and malls throughout the Tri-State area Tuesday to cross those last few items off their gift lists.
After a strong start to the season, sales at stores have fallen for three consecutive weeks. And as the holiday shopping season comes to a close, many businesses were hoping for a surge in sales to end their busiest time of year on a high note.
“Hopefully people want to come in and get what they need,” one store manager said.
That was certainly the case at the Kmart in Midtown where the line for the registers was almost the length of a football field, CBS 2’s Dave Carlin reported.
As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported, there were busy sidewalks at Ridge Hill Mall in Yonkers on Tuesday but some said the stores didn’t seem to be as crowded as they had anticipated.Comments
