Reward Offered As Authorities Search For 2nd Dog Dumped By Suffolk Shelter Worker
BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Authorities are continuing to look for a miniature poodle they say a Long Island animal shelter worker released on a street.
The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was searching around Babylon Monday for the cream-colored dog named Bailey. They believe Islip Town kennel attendant Michael Papini let Bailey loose Dec. 23 on Cooper Street.
Authorities say Bailey and a Maltese mix were given to Papini to put up for adoption. Authorities say he dumped the 1-year-old Maltese mix in a commercial trash bin in West Islip. That dog was found and is OK.
The Suffolk SPCA announced a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Bailey's recovery.
The 30-year-old Papini was arraigned Saturday on animal cruelty and other charges. He didn't enter a plea.
His lawyer, Mary Beth Abbate, described the charges against Papini as out of character.
Papini has been suspended from his job at the shelter.
