Yankees' Teixeira: No Winners In 'Unfortunate' A-Rod Saga

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mark Teixeira says the Alex Rodriguez situation is a lose-lose for everyone involved.

The New York Yankees first baseman responded to the ongoing saga Monday night after his teammate filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball and its players' union in hopes of overturning a suspension that covers the entire 2014 season.

"My only reaction is that nobody wins. Alex doesn't win, MLB doesn't win, the Yankees don't win," Teixeira said while attending the Knicks-Suns game at Madison Square Garden, according to the New York Post.

A-Rod's original 211-game ban related to MLB's investigation into Biogenesis was reduced to 162 games -- plus the playoffs -- by an independent arbitrator on Saturday. Rodriguez, who denies taking performance-enhancing drugs from the clinic, is challenging the decision in federal court.

"It's just an unfortunate situation," Teixeira said.

Teixeira said he's "ready to roll" after being limited to just 15 games last season with a wrist injury. And guess what? There's a chance Rodriguez will attempt to join him at the Yankees' complex in Tampa next month.

When asked on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show Monday whether A-Rod intends to show up at spring training, attorney Joe Tacopina replied, "Yes, he does."

There's a thought going around that some high-profile Yankees players -- Derek Jeter and CC Sabathia, for example -- should go public and ask Rodriguez to keep his baggage away from the team.

"I don't think the Yankees would ever put one of their players in a position to go talk to a player like that," WFAN Yankees beat reporter Sweeny Murti said Monday on the "Benigno & Roberts" show.

"This is a battle between the team and the player," he added. "You're not putting other players in the middle of this."
