Hey, Mets Fans! Queens Baseball Convention Coming To Flushing Saturday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- We finally have an alternative to the New York Mets' long-gone winter caravan.

Hundreds of Mets fans are expected to attend Saturday's Queens Baseball Convention, an all-day event complete with vendors, panels, presentations and games at McFadden's Citi Field in Flushing.

"It's a fan fest run by the fans," said The 7 Line's Darren Meenan, who organized the event along with Shannon Shark and Keith Blacknick of MetsPolice.com.

World Series champs Ron Darling and Ed Kranepool will be on hand for Q&A and autograph sessions. Also on the schedule are panels on new media and fantasy baseball, and a presentation on most unusual wins in team history. Mr. Met will be making an appearance, too.

A full schedule of events is available at QueensBaseballConvention.com.

"There's a whole bunch of different topics -- Mets and Pop Culture, and the guys from Uni Watch will be there to talk about evolution of the jerseys -- it's gonna be great," Meenan said. "There's something for everyone there. We just hope that the fans that come have a great time and this turns into an annual thing."

Tickets ($35 for adults and $10 for children) will be available online until 11 a.m. Saturday. Fans can also purchase admission at the door.

Autographs are included in the ticket price.

"It seems like everybody's pretty excited about it. It's been getting a lot of attention," Meenan said. "And even though the team hasn't really been playing well, there's a large community of Mets fans who are eager to get excited about baseball. And that's what this is all about."
