Police: Man Wanted For Deserting U.S. Navy Found At Long Island Home

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials in New York said a man wanted for deserting the U.S. Navy was found at his Long Island home with a loaded semi-automatic pistol.

Nassau County police said Roberto Carlo Ayala was arrested Friday morning by officers from the department's fugitive squad and U.S. marshals.

Police said the 20-year-old had a 9mm Beretta pistol and a high capacity magazine. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and high capacity magazine.

Ayala is scheduled to appear Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The Navy didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.
