New York Lottery Officials Search For 'Missing Millionaire' In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for a missing millionaire who bought a winning lottery ticket in the Bronx last year.

The owner of a winning $1 million Powerball ticket has until Sunday to come forward and claim the prize, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported.

"Look through every drawer you have, the glove compartment and see if you have a Powerball ticket that potentially could be worth $1 million because if you don't do it prior to Feb. 2 you're going to lose out," New York Lottery's Yolanda Vega told 1010 WINS.

The winning ticket, which was purchased at C & C Discount in the Bronx, matched five of the six numbers from the Feb. 2, 2013 Powerball drawing.

"Somewhere in the Bronx is a 'Missing Millionaire' and we're getting the word out that there are only a couple of days left before the prize expires," Vega said in a press release. "Maybe someone forgot they purchased a ticket or they simply discounted it because it wasn't a jackpot winner."

The ticket is one of five winning Powerball tickets worth $1 million or more from last year that have yet to be claimed.

The other winning tickets were sold at Shop Smart at 238 Prospect West in Brooklyn for the May 11 drawing; Thriftway Church Ave. Drug at 1621 Church Avenue in Brooklyn for the May 15 drawing; Carry-All Wine & Liquor at 5507 Nesconset Highway in Mount Sinai for the July 13 drawing; and Quick Mart at 38 N Middletown Road in Nanuet for the Dec. 11 drawing.

"$1 million is life-changing money, and we want to help find these winners before it's too late," Vega said.

Unclaimed tickets expire one year after the game's drawing.

If the prize is not claimed by the deadline, the money will go back into the prize pool.
