NJ Company Attempts World Record For Largest Mozzarella Football

SECAUCUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey-based cheese company is hoping to make its way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

"It's my understanding we need to have a mozzarella in the shape of a football in excess of 300 pounds," Victor Paparazzo, president of Toscana Cheese, told 1010 WINS' John Montone.

That's enough cheese for 700 pizzas, Paparazzo said.

The cheese football will come complete with laces.

"That is 100 percent fresh mozzarella, the only difference is it's naturally smoked," Paparazzo said.

The company hopes to have the super cheese ball complete by Saturday afternoon. They plan to unveil it at Secaucus' "Winter Blast, a three-day pre-game Super Bowl celebration, which kicked off Thursday.

At the time of the interview, the mozzarella football was at 320 pounds and Paparazzo believed it will weigh about 340 pounds once it is finished, Montone reported.

Toscana Cheese has partnered with Spectrum Works, a non-profit employer of people with autism, on the project.
