Girl, 5, Falls From Window While Home Alone With Young Siblings In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 5-year-old girl fell from a window Thursday while home alone with her siblings at a Bronx apartment.

The girl, Zambia Baba, was trying to clean off the window-mounted air conditioner in the apartment on East 164th Street as the snow fell Thursday, a police source told CBS 2. She opened the window and the air conditioner fell out, the source said.

The girl lost her balance and fell with the air conditioner, three stories to the ground below, the source said.

Zambia was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, where her condition was reported as stable, the source said.

The girl's mother was at nearby B.J.'s Market shopping, the source said. Zambia's 9-year-old sister and 1-year-old brother were home at the time.

The mother was called by a neighbor and rushed home, the source said. She is facing child endangerment charges.
