2 Teens Arrested For Alleged Drag Racing After They Wipe Out In Patchogue

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two Long teens were arrested on reckless driving charges Friday, after they allegedly got into separate accidents while drag racing.

Sefa Bayram, 18, of Patchogue, was driving a 2008 Mercedes Benz east on Saxton Avenue in the village, when he hit a pole around 6 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Police said the Mercedes knocked the pole to the ground and split it in half.

He was racing Uzay Karakaya, 19, of Patchogue, who was driving east on Saxton Avenue in a 2004 Maxima and hit a tree, police said.

He barely missed a house, police said.

Both teens were charged with unlawful speed contest and reckless driving.

The teens were not injured, police said.
