WATCH: J.R. Smith Pulls Down Vince Carter's Headband, Then Denies It

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Another day, another J.R. Smith antic.

In the fourth quarter of the Knicks' gut-wrenching loss to the Mavericks at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, the perplexing shooting guard proceeded to pull down Vince Carter's headband.

The eight-time NBA All-Star didn't appear to be too thrilled.

After the game, Smith flat-out denied any wrongdoing.

"No, your eyes were playing tricks on you," he said with a laugh after the game. "You're reaching for that one. I (already) got fined once for that s---."

What Smith is referring to, of course, is when he was fined a cool $50,000 for repeatedly attempting to untie opponents' shoes. He was also benched by head coach Mike Woodson.

Smith's victims were Mavericks forward Shawn Marion and Pistons forward Greg Monroe. The league disciplined the veteran for unsportsmanlike conduct, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could be fined again.

Smith came off the bench on Monday night but played 35 minutes, scoring 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting and adding four rebounds and seven assists. He turned the ball over four times and was 1-of-6 from three-point land.
