Long Island Family Reunited With Dog Missing 13 Days

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An 8-year-old labradooddle has been reunited with his family after missing for nearly two weeks.

The dog, named Cody, broke away from his leash and ran away into Massapequa Preserve on Valentine's Day.

"We were completely devastated," owner Mary Donovan told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "We just picked him up from the groomer, we were ready to bring him home and then go out and have a nice dinner and something just spooked him and he slipped out of the harness and took off."

For nearly two weeks, thousands of people turned to Facebook, put up posters and took to the streets to help find him.

"Thousands of people have been helping us in every way they can to find him," Donovan said. "People were just unbelievable, calling with advice and prayers."

In the end, the Town of Oyster Bay along with the Nassau County SPCA came together and put a safe trap with food in the preserve.

Cody took the bait and was caught.

He is now safe and sound at home.
