Spring Is In The Air...Or At Least In Stores

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Amid an especially harsh winter, it seems everyone in the Tri-State area is more than ready for spring's arrival, and if you hit the stores lately you'll notice bathing suits have made a comeback on the racks.

Nina Vaklinova said just shopping for spring clothes gives her hope.

"Really beautiful, nice pastel colors, something that reminds me of Easter and springtime," Vaklinova told CBS 2's Cindy Hsu.

Fashion expert Dawn Del Russo said the color of the season will be radiant orchid.

"If you're going to do any color this is it. And you don't have to do it in just a dress. You can do a nice little scarf or shoes or handbags in the same color," Del Russo said.

For those of you who still have a lot of black and white in your closet, you're in luck. Del Russo said the color scheme is still in this spring.

Crop tops are also still in trend, however, fashion experts suggest to pair them with a high-waisted skirt or pants that sit above your belly button, Hsu reported.

"Basically the only time you're going to see skin is if you just lift up your arms a little bit. Otherwise you're really not seeing any skin with a crop top," Del Russo said.

Also on trend is the industrial structured look, with details such as exposed zippers.

You should also look for wide-leg pants, Hsu reported.

For all of you shoe lovers, the pointy toe is back. For flats, cap toes are hot and you'll see a lot of sparkle for spring.

"If there's going to be any color shoe that you're going to go out and get besides your typical neutrals do a blue," Del Russo said.

With necklaces, think long, chunky chains in gold and silver. Big is also better when it comes to rings.

"Don't be afraid to put on a ton of them, a lot of sparkle. They can touch, you can add on as many as you want, it's sort of like that's all you need," Del Russo said.

Wearing a lot of bracelets is also still in, but go with smaller ones this season, Hsu reported.

If you're clearing out your closet for spring, you can likely get rid of the bright neon colors and the platform shoes. But if you love them, keep them because fashion experts say the styles keep coming around and around.
